As we are nearing the time of Easter, a time of the year that we remember the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, I find I keep looking back on one of my favorite stories in scripture. It is located in John chapter 20. It is the true story that tells us of how Mary Magdalene went to the place where they had laid the body of Jesus after He was crucified. Scriptures tell us that she came on the first day of the week very early while it was still dark. And when she did not find Him, she ran back and got the others. Some of the other apostles came to see, and sure enough he was not to be found. Now the apostles returned back to there homes but Mary lingered weeping. There are some more wonderful events in this story that can be found in this chapter that I am leaving out, but to sum it up Jesus said to her “Woman why weepest thou, whom seekest thou” and she did not know it was He. She supposing Him to be one of the gardeners asked him to please tell her what he had done with the body of Jesus. Then Jesus spoke to her and said “Mary”…
There is just something about that story that ketches my attention every time I read it, yes, I must say it puts my spirit in awe. I love the part where He calls her “Mary.” For there is something about Jesus Christ, My Christ your Christ if you believe, something about Him calling her by name, and that is when she knew Him. She answered “Master.”
O that we would be reminded dear readers that He calls us by name as well. No matter what we may be seeking I can only wonder if He isn’t often saying “whom do you seek?” We ought to be seeking Him in all things. O the joy of being His. The joy of recognizing that He takes such interest in those He has made. For much in the same way that He called Mary, I believe He calls us as well. Especially when we care. When we care enough to weep over Him, to joy in Him. To have a heart full of Joy concerning things He joys over, and when we learn to grieve over what He would grieve over. As an old hymn says “O to be like Him.” Well thank you dear readers for taking a moment to read this post. If you have any comments or questions please don’t hesitate to email us! We would love to hear from you.
Have a blessed Easter, and may the reason for the day be a reality in your life.
